I come asking for assistance
Ever since finishing my college program experience about 4 years ago, I knew that after graduating College I wanted to come back to pursue a dream career
with the Disney Company once again. Being from Pennsylvania I saved up enough money to survive for a little in
Orlando while I pursue this dream. Along with my family and friends support, I left the State and came down here to only find my dreams diminishing. I'm
looking for any help, suggestions, advice anyone can give me to gain a professional position with the Disney Company again. I'm not looking for an
Executive position here, just something entry level where it made sense going to school. I've gone to the casting center
many times, only to be misled numerous times. Please help.

She's not looking for entry level. They take pretty much anyone for entry level. She probably wants a management position.

What do they mean by again, did they have one before?

She was on the College Program before. Yeah, when you're an intern, and their not paying you, you have a chance to do different positions. She is expecting
something like she had before.

My nephew did it, hated it. He loved Disney; it was a dream of his to actually work there, until he did it. Worst job he ever had, or so he says. They paid them a pittance, I know it wasn't even at minimum wage; charged them a lot of money for the dorm room they were required to live in (although the Coke company was subsidizing the cost but that wasn't being applied to the cost of the room). They had room inspections; if it wasn't clean they could lose their job (as well as the credit), no drinking even if they were of legal age, no members of opposite sex in the bedrooms, only in the living room but the front door had to be open, and I think there was a curfew unless you were working or leaving work after the park closed. I know there was a lot of rules he didn't agree with but tried to follow; he ended up leaving, after 4 months he had enough of being treated like a teenager. |

It sounds like the OP thinks a job should just fall in her lap

My guess is that if you want management either you need to possess a masters degree or you need to work your way through the ranks. What does she mean by misled by Central Casting? |

You go to central casting, you fill in an application. They tell you what is open. If you want anything other than what they have, you wait till it's
available.
WDW is a business just like every other business. If you qualify for a position, based on the interviewer, you may get an offer. If not, go to Universal. I hear they have jobs that you don't even have to go to, Casey Anthony, and still can say you work there. |

There are plenty of positions if you're actually skilled, and not just another person with an English degree.

My niece managed to party her way through the Disney college program, just like she did high school and college. She was reprimanded a couple of times, but
the people reprimanding were some of her main party friends, so she got away with a lot. She's 26 and still thinks life is one big party.
I feel very bad for her 3 year old son. Oh and she never got any college credit when she was down there. You have to take college classes to get that and she did not. It was basically a semester off of school for her. |

Right now, the only things that are available are a bunch of internships and a handful of hourly roles. It's quite possible that she specified where she
would like to work and there honestly are no openings.

I believe that. Good jobs are hard to come by here right now and the ones that have them are holding on to them.

He said he had to come in over the fence a few times. No on street parking around there, so if the employee had a car it had to be back at the complex by midnight or it wasn't coming in the complex, no enforced bedtime but being on the premises is a curfew of sorts. They had a no alcohol policy but I know it was brought in, I brought him a case of beer for his birthday. He was surprised at all the rules as that wasn't the impression he got when he first looked into the program; perhaps they were cracking down on the underage drinking so Disney wouldn't have to deal with a potential liability issue? |

What year was your nephew there? It sounds like they are really sucking the fun out of it now!
I had friends in the college program in 1999 and 2000 and when I visited I was able to be in the complex up until 2 am. The castmembers were able to come and go at any time though (and their cars). They even let me leave my car there overnight once when I had too much to drink and needed to take a cab. They had security at the gate 24 hours. None of the other rules you talked about were in place, there was plenty of drinking and other debauchery going on all over the place. Good times. |

When I was in school I heard several stories of people who did the College Program having to ask for money from their parents to be able to afford to get home
from FL. And this meant getting home to TN, not traveling across the country or anything. There was very little left in your paycheck after Disney deducted for
rent.

I did the CP in 1999 and the gate was only closed to non-CPers after 2 am. We could come and go freely. No restrictions on who could be in your apartment or
room. (Other than non-CPers could not sleep over.) No room inspections. The room was $60 a week and we made....er, I think $6.25 an hour? I think I made around
$100 a week after taxes and rent. Under-21s weren't supposed to drink (but we did...alot...)
